Enduring the Night: When the soul endures until God dawns

(Resisting through pain by trusting in Jesus Christ)

Introduction – When the night feels endless

There are moments in life when the soul feels like it cannot go any further. When the weight of pain, uncertainty, and trials stretches out like a night that never seems to end.
In those moments, the heart whispers a simple but powerful truth:

“I just have to endure… I just have to make it through the night.”

That same reality was lived by our Lord Jesus Christ… but at a level no human mind can fully comprehend.

Gethsemane: The decision to endure

Before the cross, there was a garden. Before the physical suffering, there was a spiritual battle.

Jesus knew what was coming. It was not ignorance… it was full awareness.

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but Yours be done.”
Luke 22:42

This is not weakness…this is perfect surrender.
This is where enduring the night (begins.

Jesus did not run.
Jesus chose to endure.

The night of betrayal, injustice, and humiliation

What followed was a chain of pain upon pain.

  • A betraying kiss from Judas
  • False accusations
  • Lies and unjust judgment
  • Blows, spit, and mockery

“Then they spat in his face, and punched him…”
Matthew 26:67

Jesus, being righteous… was treated as guilty.
The Holy One… humiliated by sinners.

And still…
He kept enduring.

The weight of rejection: Barabbas instead of the Just One

One of the most striking moments came from the crowd’s cry:

“Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”
Luke 23:21

They chose a criminal…
and they rejected the Son of God.

Pilate himself declared:

“I find no fault in this Man.”
Luke 23:4

And yet… He was handed over.

Here we see a profound truth:
Jesus was not defeated… He gave himself up out of love.

Physical suffering: Love that bleeds

The pain wasn't just emotional… it was brutally physical.

  • Scourging that tore His flesh
  • Crown of thorns
  • Blows to His head
  • Mockery and humiliation

“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:5

Every wound had a purpose.
Every drop of blood… spoke of love.

Jesus just had to keep going…

The cross: The crucial moment of sacrifice

Finally, the path led to Golgotha.

“When Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, ‘It is finished.’ And bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.”
John 19:30

At the darkest moment… the most glorious plan was fulfilled.

“When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour.”
— Mark 15:33

What seemed like defeat…
It was eternal victory.

Application: When you have to endure the night

There are personal nights:

  • A hospital bed
  • An unexpected diagnosis
  • A family crisis
  • An internal battle

Moments where the soul says:
“I can’t take it anymore…”

But the Spirit answers:

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”
Psalm 30:5

And then you realize…
It's not about escaping the night,
But, it’s about enduring it with God.

The strength to endure comes from God

Jesus endured…
And now He strengthens those who trust in Him.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13

“But those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength…”
Isaiah 40:31

It is not human strength.
Is supernatural grace that comes from God.

Final exhortation – Endure, for the dawn is coming

If you are going through a difficult night…
If you feel you've reached your limit…

Listen to this clearly:

👉 Do not give up.
👉 Don't let go of your faith.
👉 Don't abandon the process.

Jesus already walked through that night…
and He knows how to sustain you through yours.

Endure.
Endure. Hold on. Trust Him.
Trust.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

— Mateo 16:24

Because after the cross…
came the resurrection, and with it, eternal life.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die

— John 11:25

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
Forever and ever. Amen and Amen.”

Psalm 41:13
